Membership in this Connectional Fellowship (Shrewsbury Avenue African Methodist Episcopal
Zion Church) is a right, a responsibility, a commitment and a privilege. The right is granted
to all persons who seek to discover eternal truths through the vehicle of Christian faith.
The responsibility is imposed by our acceptance of the opportunities available in the faith.
The commitment emerges as we seek to use these opportunities of the faith to develop fully
as Christians. Therefore, the commitment must have a two dimensional focus; there must be
a commitment to Self-Christianization and secondly a continued organization development.
This privilege is extended to all persons without regard to birth, social status, race or
any other categorization.
There is but one requirement imposed upon those who desire membership in our fellowship;
“A desire to flee the wrath to come and to be saved from their sins.” If this is rally
fixed in the new person’s soul it will be shown by the fruits it bears. The person who
seeks to be admitted to this fellowship must have a desire to become a new person in Christ
Jesus. The person desiring to become a new person in Christ will demonstrate a continuous
practice of the presence of God in their lives daily.
Some Attributes of the Daily Practice of the Presence of God
- The deep desire to love all people
- The longing for a committed spiritual life.
- The sincere desire to be kind, to be merciful and to be patient in all circumstances without regard for reward.
- The sincere striving to find God and live constantly within the sacred moment.
Those who come into the fellowship are expected to grow and become leaders, showing others the
light we walk in. As a member of this fellowship, it is important that you learn fellowship
includes a number of organized layers, known as conferences. The Members Conference and the
Quarterly Conference are held at our church. These conferences are designed to plan, implement
and examine the affairs of our Fellowship. It is therefore important that each member of the
Fellowship attend these conferences.
Financial Support
The Shrewsbury Ave African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church is a part of an international
organization. As a member, you are a very special part of the International Christian
Organization. Your financial support, and that of other persons like you, is the only
means of keeping this organization alive. Therefore, your generous support is required
to meet all the obligations identified in our budget.
Financial support of your church is a very serious obligation. As a member, you committed
to supporting the programs and activities with your tithes and offerings. The specific amount
you contribute is a matter of personal consciousness. We accept and encourage two methods
of giving, they are tithing and pledging. Tithing is a method of giving where a person
contributes one tenth of his income to the Church, and the pledge experience represents a
method of consistent giving. If you use the pledge method of contributing, decide on an
appropriate amount you desire to contribute. These gifts should be given monthly or
weekly.
Special Contributions
Church Annual Revival: Each member is asked to contribute according to their ability in
support of the revival.
